The Mechatronics (Brazilian
Portuguese) or Mechatronics (European Portuguese) is an area that uses the
technologies of mechanics, electronics, electronic and information technology
to provide products, systems and improved processes, one of the newer areas of
engineering, as well as technical-vocational education, worldwide. The
integrated area of these diverse technologies is what you might call
Mechatronic Systems.
[Edit] Features
Mechatronics emphasizes management and control of
the complexity of the modern industries that require sophisticated tools to
manage their diverse real-time integrated processes.
According to the Advisory Committee for Industrial
Research and Development of the European Community (IRDAC) "Mechatronics
is the synergistic integration of mechanical engineering with electronics and
intelligent computer control in process design and manufacturing of
products." In other words, it means that mechatronics is the combination
of mechanical engineering with electronics with an intelligent control by
computer, that is, a machine that has both mechanical parts and electrical
parts and sensors that capture information and pass for the mechanical parts
able to provide products, systems and processes improved.
We consider as an example of a mechatronic system
washing machine with automatic door-soap. This soap-door knows how much soap
you should put in each cycle, because it "weighs" the amount of
clothing that has the basket. That means she knows the amount of soap being
used because there is a sensor beneath the basket of the machine that weighs
the amount of clothes. After weighing the clothes, a computer processes this
information and note how much laundry is inside the machine, then it sends a
command to the actuator that turns the amount of soap needed for proper
washing.
Mechatronics functions as a sort of "future of
engineering." Initially, the course is common to any engineering
disciplines: calculus, physics, mechanics and basic electrical. In the specific
part of the course are introduced disciplines, including logic circuits,
control of mechanical systems and industrial automation. How many of the
disciplines of the course involves practical and experimental, they naturally
include lessons in individual laboratories.
We must also consider the exercise of mechatronics,
detailed knowledge on materials, alloys and physicochemical properties. Such
features are essential and will determine the life of a mechatronic device or
equipment.
